18 Month Old Grandson Has Sudden Onset Of Excessive Saliva

18 month old grandson has sudden onset of excessive saliva and drooling. Saw pediatrician and diagnosed acute otitis media and placed on Omnicef BID X 20 days. Prior 2 weeks, I, grandmother and family nurse practitioner examined bilateral ears and canals appeared red and his was itching them. Is diagnosis external ear canal infection? I have never seen excessive salivation with otitis media,
