4 Years Ago I Had A "hammer Toe" Fixed, Operated

4 years ago I had a "hammer toe" fixed, operated on, small rod inserted, straightened toe. For the past 5 months, I have periods of pain, redness/blister/swollenness, and my toe is turning toward the next toe (not the big toe). I have also started getting a sort of callous build-up between this toe and the big toe that has to be periodicly moved. The foot Dr. removed the callous once, now it has returned, after 2 months. That Dr. just suggested that I put a corn pad or bandaid on that area. however, it only adds more irritation to the toe. Can you help me?
