5 Mths After A Total Thyroidectomy I Have Had Numbness

5 mths after a total thyroidectomy i have had numbness and shaking in my fingers and numbness of my feet. My doctor had my blood checked and my calcium was dangerously low. I had been on 1 citrical tablet daily for about the last 2 mths but as I suffer from stomach cramps and bloating and my bloods had been fine, we were trying to keep the calcium levels up with change in diet. I've been taking 2 tablets a day for the past week and have had improvement in the numbness and shaking but my tummy is not happy. Am I stuck with these for life as I lost 1 parathyroid gland to a benign tumour at the time of the thyroidectomy.
