6 Months Ago My 72 Year Old Mom Was Planting

6 months ago my 72 year old mom was planting around our marsh in florida. she thought she was stung or bitten or got a splinter in her finger. it swelled a bit but nothing severe. She hates doctors so she lived with it. Today (6 months later) the swollen area had a small openening. We decided to lance it with a needle and 4 small clear balls (like tapioca) came out two looked like they had blood streaks but there was some blood from the cut. We cleaned it out with peroxide and then Triple A ointment and she says it does not hurt anymore. just wondering what could cause these balls. an insect? any ideas
