6 Year Old Grandson Had A Positive Streph Test, Was
6 year old grandson had a positive streph test, was treated. Afterwards he complained of being extremely tired, low energy, and had excessive thirst. Had a low grade fever. Some days later he complained of his stomach hurting and he lacked appetite. Returned to dr. They repeated the streph test and it showed negative. The dr. gave him some common medication to settle his stomach which seemed to help. Some days later he had difficulty walking after waking and had pain in knees, legs. Thought it was growing pains. 4 days later he refused to walk after a Cavs game because of the pain. Tests were run. The x-rays were normal of the hip and knees. Blood work showed no elevation in the white blood cell count. Negative streph test/culture. He had an elevated CRP of 3 and his SED Rate was 22. They said Toxic Synovitis. Told to give motrin or advil. Take to ER if fever goes above 101 and the motrin does not take away the pain. The motrin is only to be given if he has pain. What do you think about the diagnosis. What children's hospital in Ohio is best known to handle this type of situation and what type of specialist should be seen. Too bad you have to pay for an opinion....
