A Dear Friend Is In A Hospital In Nigeria He

A dear friend is in a hospital in Nigeria he was shot over 2 weeks ago in the abdomen, this evening I received an IM asking me if it is normal for him to vomit dark brown blood, and defecate dark brown blood, it only happened for a short period and it was not bright red blood is this normal? or should his brother call the Dr. back to this hospital right away? I am not familiar with the medical care in Africa.
