A Few Days Ago I Went To The Doctor Because

A few days ago i went to the doctor because i had a severe headache, very swollen neck glands(especially my right side) sore throat, difficulty swallowing. it was very painful..even my jaw and teeth hurt. No fever & bp was normal. She said my tonsils were also swollen...she assumed strep (which i never had before. I am female age 56). I started amoxicil
lin and also treated the headache which was excruciating. I am feeling better, although not 100%. What puzzles me is that the strep test came back negative. My doctor was not in because of todays snow storm so she couldn't tell me what else it may be. Any suggestions?
