A Few Months Ago I Was Diagnosed By A Optician

A few months ago I was diagnosed by a optician with a cold sore on my eye. It was horrendous but has now heeled. But I now suffer from occasional itchy red eyes where it seems like the skin is peeling off my eye ball. The only way I can describe it is hair like jelly strands that stretch out and peel away (and I admit that I do peel this off as it gives relief). Is this something I should be worried about? Is it be related to the cold sore? Any advice you can offer is appreciated. Thx
