A Few Years Ago I Discovered That I'm Allergic To

A few years ago I discovered that I'm allergic to sulfa drugs. Today, I bought an OTC cough medicine called Robitussin extended release 12 hour cough release. When I got home, I noticed that the front says "Contains sodium metabisulfite, a sulfite that may cause allergic type reactions." Is this a medication that I should stay away from?
