After Surviving A Tramatic Brain Injury My Husband's Beard Has

After surviving a tramatic brain injury my husband's beard has changed. It is soft and hard to shave. Also his toe nails seem not to be growing. He hasn't had to trim them since he woke up from a coma more than three months ago. What is going on?
