Are Mild Chronic Microvascular Ischemic Changes And Volume Loss As Per An MRI Report Consistent With Age-related Changes?
There is mild prominence of the ventricles and sulci compatible with local volume loss, borderline for age. No asymmetric involvement of the mesial temporal lobe structures. There are scattered foci of abnormal signal in the deep and periventricular white matter of both cerebral hemispheres which are nonspecific but most compatible with mild chronic microvascular ischemic changes. Apparent abnormal signal involving the hippocampi on the axial FLAIR images is favored to be artifactual without convincing evidence of abnormal signal on the axial or coronal T2-related TSE sequences. No recent infarct, hydrocephalus, or herniation pattern. No intracranial mass effect. Orbits are within normal limits. Paranasal sinuses and mastoid air cells are clear. IMPRESSION: Mild chronic microvascular ischemic changes and mild to moderate global parenchymal volume loss Normal volume of the mesial temporal lobe structures without convincing signal abnormality.
