Are Pain Killers Advisable For Severe Pain?

hi...i wanna know about through what ways can this gap gets bettee because my mum in law is having swear pain suddenly after few months and than she is on pain killers but nothing helps her + she says she s bearing this since she was a child ...can u plz guide something for her...? would be greatfull of you...
