Are Purple Discolorations On Ankle And Foot Post Multiple Fractures In Ankle Normal?
Hi, I am a 48 y/o male who has had multiple fracture dislocations of both ankles (approx. 25-30 each foot). After the first few I was told my ankles were shot and no rehab would fix them. I was fitted with orthotics which did help a lot but still at least once a year I find myself standing on my tibia and fibula. What I would do after an injury is ice, wrap and shove my foot into my calf high work boots and go about my way. Now after 25 yrs of this injury I find permanent purple discoloration starting at the top of my boots continuing down to my ankle and foot. darkest at the lateral ankle where all the injuries were. It seems to get darker each time I injure the ankle. I have no other symptoms. I have good feeling and they are warm to the touch with good pedal pulses. Do I have anything to worry about?
It seems infection, need to take sample from there and microbiological examination and accordingly treatment. Yes, if not treated properly it's thing to worry because if infection spreads then leads to complications.
Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards,
Dr. Sunny Madar, General & Family Physician
