Are Spotting And Cramping Normal While Taking Metronidazole For BV?

Hi I am taking Metronidazole for BV and today is my second day out of the five days I am supposed to take it. My doctor didn't test for BV but I had the symptoms so he gave me medicine and told me if it doesn't go away then he will have to take cultures to confirm a diagnosis. I am having cramps and some spotting, is this normal? I took this a year ago for BV that was diagnosed and don't remember having side effects but the infection was back 2 weeks later.
