As The Weather Suddenly Got Cold And I Was Exposed

As the weather suddenly got cold and i was exposed to chill winds for couple of days,i had cold and sputum (very thick) and had throat pain a week ago, which went on its own, at that time once i had blood in my sputum, but then only pain was there, it subsided as i took rest. But suddenly today in the morning i cleared by nose sputum got out in normal form, but when i cleared my throat, the sputum came all bloody, i don't have any paid in any area of throat/nose/ear, i am frightened as I am a smoker (8 cigs a day). what could be the case ?
