At The Back Of My Son's Throat Around The Base

At the back of my son's throat around the base of the tongue he has something caught. I know this isn't strep. It looks like food has been caught. Any ideas of what I can do to remove it without hurting him since his gag reflexes are over active at the moment because of it.
