By way of disclosure and background, I do not drink enough fluids. A couple months ago, I was reading a book and suddenly my the inside of my forearm began stinging as if stung by an insect - i went to smash the beast but instead of a bug I saw a vein bulging and growing. The stinging intensified to the point of feeling like when I had a vein blow with an IV (perhaps coincidentally, i was hospitalized ten years ago for about 3 weeks and developed extensive clots in same arm following pic-line...many blown veins). Back to the bulge, I watched as it grew to a large gum ball size lump and as i was telling my pseudo doc/sister, i felt a release - it blew - fantastic stinging pain and the lump flattened and an impressive bruise formed. Went to doctor the next day and showed him the photos I had taken of the lump as it formed and the aftermath. he concluded i pretty made my blood like glue and i developed a clot and it blew the vein. He was my treating doctor and knew the single hospital related clot sage from yesteryear. Fast forward, I have since been much better about fluid intake, however, my arm has become increasingly sore and continues to feel as if something inside is catching. You guessed it - the sensation is in the same vicinity as the self induced exploding clot. There is never any visible swelling, but I continue to experience a stinging type ache that while not constant, is frequent and sometimes to the point of distraction and my shoulder has several times begun to ache. It can't be a clot again - although similar in sensation, there is no swelling. Very, very bothersome today - very - and i will be calling doc Monday. Any guesses in the interim?
