Can I Take Birth Control To Regulate Period?

I'm 25 years old and I'm taking the birth control pill to regulate my period due to my periods have been longer than a week. This morning i was going to the bathroom and wiped and i notice that there was something other than the interior wall of the urius flushing off it a lot more thicker substance. I tried to pull it apart to see if there was something inside of it maybe a ovary egg or something. What it apeared to be either a ovary discharge or a maybe I had a misscarriage. I tried to look up some images to tell what it is. Should I be worried.
