Can Lovastatin And Gemfibrozil Be Taken Together?

I have been taking lovastatin for a few years now and I also take gemfibrozil and my feet feel like they have pins and needles sticking in them. I was thinking about getting off the lovastatin because I have heard statins are not safe to take. Also a pharmacist told me I shouldn t be taking both meds together
