Can Mirena Cause Missed Periods?

I had key-hole surgery in April 2010, and my consultant fitted the mirena coil at the same time as I already have twin daughters and have no plans for more. I seem to have missed a period totally, could I be pregnant with the Mirena, or could it be a side effect?
