Can Mucinex Cure Swollen Tonsils And Mucus?

My right tonsil was swollen and covered in puss. After two days I went to the doctor he prescribed an anti-biotic. It s been two days and the infection seems to be worse. My left tonsil is now swollen and so is the top of the back of my throat. And the mucus covering my right tonsil has quadrupled in size. Also now I have headaches. Will mucinex break up that mucus? Should I go back to the doctor? He said in two days I should see it clearing up but it s not happening.
