Can SMZ-TMP And Valacyclovir Cutre Herpes?

my son is a wrestler and was having a break out on his face. we have been to the dr. and he was diagnosed with a staph infection and they also did a culture for herpes. He is currently taking smz-tmp ds and valacyclovir. he came home from school ate a little and went to bed complaining he had a headache and was tired. which i know are side effects of the drugs. he woke up a little while ago complaining of sweating and having the chills, we took his tempr and it read 94.5 we used to different thermometers to make sure one wasn't bad. they both read the same. he is back in bed but i told him i would be in again to take his temp. should i be concerned now or should i wait till morning and take him to the dr. again. he is 15 yrs. old if that helps.
