Can A Person Get Staph Infection In Their Mouth...I Had

Can a person get staph infection in their mouth...I had part of my thyroid removed 2 & 1/2 weeks ago. On about the 6th or 7th day after, a big sore place appeared in my mouth. It is located on the left side, clear in the back of my mouth. It hurts so bad to even talk. It’s red w/almost white in the middle. I hate to go back to the doctor so I am checking with you folks to see what you think.
