Can Birth Control Pills Cause Cramps In Periods?

I was on the birth control shot for 3 seesions... i had my period for 10 months...so i stopped taking it. I thought maybe i was too young being i was 17...i tried it again because i just turned 20 and now ive had my period for 4 months! and i have horrible pains like its my first day getting my period...please help!!! urgent
