Can Birth Control Pills Causing Ankles Pain Be Due To Blood Clotting?

Hi. I am experiencing sudden sharp pains in my ankles. I am on birth control and when i started it my doctor told me to be aware of these pains as it could be a sign of blood-clotting. Could you tell me what this might be?
