Can Cataract Surgery Be Done Immidiately After Retinal Detachment Surgery?

I had retinal detachment surgery in Sept 2014, and the Dr tells me I now have a cataract in that eye and plans to remove it. My vision is distorted ( things are about 70% of normal size and lines in a book are wavy) in the eye and I am wondering if - Distorted Vision is common due to the cataract, should I have cataract surgery so soon after the retinal detachment surgery?
