Can Dark Patch Around Nose Be A Broken Blood Vessel?

yesterday my wife pointed out to me a dark patch on one side of my nose next to and including part of the area under one eye. This was slightly reddish near the eye. I didn't feel anything. What might cause this? I am 66. Could it be a broken blood vessel in that area?
