Can Defective Shoes Cause Pain In The Calf?

Hi, I'm having a slight issue with my calf, I've been having a pain in my calf
since a week now. At first I don't know if it was muscle injury or not, so I
just ignored it and rested more than 8hr a day, but every time I would wake up,
there will be a small prickling pain in both my calves. The rest is 50/50, it's
either during the whole day I don't feel any pain, or it pains as if I just
finished running 50miles for the whole day.

I have not been doing any regular sports for more than 6months, the last
sporting thing I did, was indoor rock climbing and that really did not require
much of the feet muscle compared to the arms.

Now I have quite an old shoe and frankly, the shoe is way past it's expiration
date, the rubber cushion is long gone. I've been meaning to change it but I
still don't have the time. So do you think this is because of the shoes? or it
it something else?

I may have diabetes since my mom has it, in case it's relevant, I don't want to
leave any option out.

Thank you
