Can Hysterectomy Cause An Under Active Thyroid?

Could a hysterectormy cause an under active thyroid. Ever since my operation back in 1993 I have never felt as though I recovered my "bounce" , always seem to feel tired and have struggled with weight gain ever since. The only way I did lose a considerable amount of weight (1 stone) was when I was taking Tenuate dospan prescribed by a thyroid doctor. I'd really would appreciate your opinion. Many thanks
