Can Intestines Heal Themselves When Suffering From Autoimmune Diseases

Hello, my 51 year old girlfriend has several autoimmune diseases. She is down to 75 lbs and almost died last Tuesday. They say her intestines have multiple small holes that need to heal themselves. She has had a 360 degree turnaround, but I am concerned about the holes that sent her to the hospital. Can the intestines really heal themselves? She is ineligible for surgery, she would not survive.
