Can Prosthetic Cause Skin Irritation?

I have a raised painful area at the crease of my leg and genial region. I am an amputee that wears a prosthetic that comes up high on my residual limb and causes some irritation. i initally thought this raised area is from the prosthetic, but it will not go away. Any suggestions as to what it could be and how to treat?
