Can Sleep Inducing Medicine Be Given To Relieve Eczema?

My 94 yr old mother has been in a nursing home for almost 5 yrs. She has been suffering from eczema for for 6 mths. She has seen a dermatologist who took a blood test, said the results were inconclusive and prescribed yet more creams and emollients. Nothing has worked, and she is literally scratching the skin off her bones. The only time she gets relief is when she sleeps. Can I ask her doctor to prescribe something that will make her sleep more as her suffering is horrible both for her, and for us to see?
