Can Taking Benedryl Be Safe For Redness And Swelling Around The Lips?

For the past few weeks my lips have been red all around the outside, dry and become swollen at times....I have tried everything I can think of to get rid of them but nothing helps. When I went to the doctor all she said was that there was nothing she could do so she just gave me benedryl in case it was an allergy. Please help!
