Can Torn Rotator Cuff Cause Shoulder Pain?

i have sharp pain in both shoulders ,limited range of motion,can t sleep on left side or back (left side)can not lift anything,very painful.doctor says could be damage to both rotator cuff.What test can you take to show problems with the rotator cuff and how do you fix the problem/
