Ciprofloxacin and related antibiotics have been known to cause tendonopathy and other muscular and joint side effects. My wife was given one of these drugs for a bladder infection and suffered a severe combination of tendon and ligament issues as well as what has been labelled "reactive arthritis." She has just been diagnosed with an ear infection and has been given an ear-drop prescription that includes cipro. Should we worry that she might suffer further problems like those described above from this external topical treatment?
