Could A Sore Throat With Cough Be Streptococcal Throat?

Hi, I belive my mom is on her way to having Strep Throat. She has a very sore throat, a horrible cough, and no medications are helping. We gave her some cough syrup that did nothing and lots of fluids and that didn't help. Thank You , Lucy Brancoli
