Could Changing The Form Of Birth Control After 15 Years Cause Any Side Effects?

I ve been on some sort of constant birth control since I was 15, now 34. My IUD is scheduled to come out next month, I was going to have them place a new one but my spouse is against the Mirena. My concern is what my body will go through with no birth control at all since i ve had some sort for so long. Should I try to off set the side effects of the IUD with another form of birth control? The reason I got put on birth control when I was so young was because my periods were horrible, lasted 8 days, heavy, extreme cramps, bloating..
