Could Congested Chest Post Surgery For Breast Cancer Be A Catch Due To Gas?

My wife has breast cancer and has undergone surgery and chemo and into radiation now. Yesterday she developed a congestion in her chest and I took her to ER in hospital. After ECG etc, they told it was a catch due to gas. She couldn't lie down yesterday night and has discomfort if she lies in bed.
Please suggest a relief.
