Could Distended Abdomen Along With Weight Gain Be Due To Alcohol Intake?

I have been drinking excessively for 6 months. My stomach is very distended and of course weight gain. If I quit for good and begin exercising again will this pass in time. This is not the first time. I am great during the summer and during the holidays and when things stress me.
