Could Extreme Fatigue Even After Sleep Be A Side Effect Of Lantus?

I have been type 2 for about twenty years. went on Lantus - about four years ago at 48 mg in the evening . I work about six hours daily but always fighting extreme fatigue. If i take Lantus during the day get very fatigued in about twenty minutes. My AIC is just above 7 and even if I sleep ten hours - never feel rested. Is this a common issue with Lantus ? Also taking 1000 mg of Metaphoreme daily. Caffeine is used to keep going. Taking no other types of medicine and BP is consistently normal with resting pulse at 56. If I skip the Lantus blood sugar soon at 220 to 400 !!
