Could Fever, Loose Bowels And Rashes Be Due To Bacterial Infection?

Symptoms include one week of illness ...sore throat, one day of fever, loose bowels....at end of week a rash developed on extremities only....back of knees, thighs, upper arms. Doctor tested for strep...test was negative. She had no further suggestions. I want to find out exactly what type of bacterial infection I had...where is best place to research?
