Could Itchy Nipple And Scaly Skin On Areola Indicate Cancer?

Hi, I have had a really itchy nipple on and off for 2 years now. It comes and goes but recently worse. The skin is now a bit scaly on my right aerola but I suppose no wonder since I never stop scratching ! It gets better in the sun and worse in winter. Could it be cancer.? I have no lumps or any other abnormalities. Grateful for any help. Btw I m 46 , 105 pounds, otherwise healthy but I do smoke.
