Could Oozing Of Pus From Wound On Leg Be A Matter Of Concern?

Hi ... my dad had a wound from a bicycle peddle few mths back. Last mth he checked in a hospital and the doctor said its fine just come for dressing. Today he felt pain and doctor says there is pus and will refer to ortho. Is it a serious condition? How can we heal the wound faster?
