Could Pain And Bleeding During Bowels Be The Symptoms Of Ulcerative Colitis?

I was recently tested for ulcerative colitis because of pain and fresh blood when I had a bm. I read that one symptom is pus in your stool and I instantly had a lightbulb pop up. During the period of time I was having these other symptoms, I had a random case of diarrhea. In the toilet was white, foam looking, whips and I thought it was just bubbles or something so I dismissed it. If I were to have pus in my stool, is this what it would look like? What exactly would I be looking for if I was trying to see if there was pus?
