Could Pain In Abdomen Be Due To Surgical Clips?

I found out I have surgical clips left in my upper abdomen after gall bladder surgery 5 yrs ago. I am having pain in this area do the surgical clips cause problems in people, is there any history of the surgical clips causing pain. Also are they totally necessary to be left in after gall bladder surgery and why did the surgeon not tell me about them.
