Could Pain In Sole Of Foot Be Due To The Spacing Between Toes?

My daughter is 22 and has Down s Syndrome. She has a large space between her first and second toes and recently has complained about a pain on the sole of her foot in the area between these toes. What is the condition of this wide space called and could this have something to do with the pain she complains about? I cannot see anything on her foot causing the pain. The pain seems to come and go.
