Could Pain On Left Side At The Bottom Of Ribs Indicate Cancer?

I have a pain on my left side at the bottom of my ribs. It hurts just to touch the skin. and, at night when i lie down on that side it feels like it s slightly burning. I went to the doctor today. He said it might be shingles or he might want a chest xray because I used to smoke, kidney infection. It s like it s all over the map. They did do a urinalysis that showed something so now they re going to do a culture. and, the doctor mentioned some type of cancer. He said that he wasn t saying I had anything of these, but when you hear the word cancer then that s all you hear. What do you think it is?
