Could Probiotics Stop Frequent Bowel Movements?

My husband has had a very active bowel problem .....not diarreaha necessarily, but he has to go more often that he likes. 3 or 4 times a day. He is 75 and has Alzheimers. He s had pretty extensive tests run and lots of blood work, but nothing shows up. Would probiotics help?
