Could Sensations In Chin And Lips Be Restored Back Despite Damaged By Dog S Bite?

Hi I have been bite by a dog 8 months ago the dog tore off my bottom lip down to my chin I got over 35 stiches now all healed and will get laser treatment in May to improve the look of my scar my plastic surgeon told me that it could take 6 months or longer to get all the sensation back I still have numbness and tightness and pain inside my mouth and it has been 8 months now do you think the pain will go away or if I have permanent nerve damage what should I do
