Could Severe Pain In Ribs Be Due To Bruising?

I hit my side in an attempt to not fall it hurt, but did not bruise. It was very sore for a few days, and ir hurt to lay on that side. now I can lay onthe side, but it hurts a lort for a short time, but soon quits hurting. I don,t know if I have a broken , cracked or bruised rib.
